GRiT (Girls Riding Together)

The GRiT (Girls Riding Together) program is a NICA national initiative aimed at increasing the overall participation rate of female student-athletes and female coaches across NICA to 33% by 2023.

Why GRiT?

The GRiT (Girls Riding Together) program is a NICA national initiative aimed at increasing the overall participation rate of female student-athletes and female coaches across NICA to 35% by 2025.

For the 2023 season the North Carolina League has a female student-athlete participation rate of 21.4% (national average is 20.7%) and a female coach participation rate of 28.2% (national average is 24.7%). The North Carolina League is committed to continuing to increase this percentage for both our student-athletes and our coaches.

Our GRiT Coordinator, supported by a team of women coaches making up our GRiT Committee, is working to increase female participation at the coach and student-athlete level through various outreach events across the state.

We all know that girls are stronger when we support each other and lift each other up, and with that the North Carolina League has started a GRiT Ambassador program that empowers female student-athletes to mentor other female student-athletes across the league. Setting time aside for “girls only” events allows our female student-athletes and coaches to get to know each other and strengthen our mountain biking community.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding GRiT or how to get involved.
